hello fellow fromagette fans! lil’ sriracha missed out on one important part and photo, of the parm splitting process… getting it open!
I have to say, this is one of my favorite things to do, as a cheese-girl, it is really fun and satisfying to dig those italian daggers into the parmigiano to strategically release all of the goodness and Mmmm that has been perfecting for 2 years.
it’s a magical thing.
it gives people pause when they see it. there is actually a definitive line you could draw between people. 1.) people who like nectarines vs. people who like peaches. that’s not part of this conversation, but lil’ sriracha knows exactly what i’m talking about.
2.)there are also, those people who will glance upon “the splitting of the parm,” and they are mesmerized, and driven to say something about it. we LOVE that. if you see someone wrestling an 80 lb wheel of cheese or even a small batch of Goat’s Leap Eclipse, and it gives you pause, say something!! your fellow cheese-monger will thank you. (and probably give you a taste!!)

in the life of a fromagette: a Saturday before & after work with Little Sriracha

“The Before”

5:45 A.M. on a Saturday, my work alarm goes off…

First, I feel an incredible desire to throw a temper tantrum like a child. Then, Given my envy at this time of all you 9-5 Monday through Friday work types…i contemplate the joke of waking one of my lovely friends up at this hour after their night of partying… (i haven’t had the heart yet to do it:) Once I finally give into the fact that I have to get out of bed it’s time to remember the positives…(for those of you who don’t know…i work in the obviously BEST department at Bi-Rite Market: Cheese & Wine…the positives are many…my love for my job is the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.

“The After”

4p.m.

The reality is that Saturdays can be tough, long and draining as Dolores Park is a popular spot and let’s face it, at Bi-Rite we have a lot of tasty things to take to the park. For me when 4p.m. rolls around it is time to clock out…my first thought is “freeeeeeeeeeedom” hahah but then i realize…hmmm i should get something for dinner..or for…or??? At this time after the day my mind is out of ideas and I wonder the shop perplexed of what to get. Well… I recently came up with the cure! Haha (thank you to a day in Champagne, France for the idea) Wine Bubble Baths! I know, maybe ridiculous, maybe crazy…but the most relaxing wind down experience ever. I feel like i’m ready to go out on the town after!

I highly suggest you try it…Red Wine seems to really play into a serious relaxation process, Sparkling Wine is quite fun but maybe for more of a bubbly or scandalous mood… ;)

Cheers, Zivio!

The Purple & Gray News: San Lucio the Patron Saint of Cheese Makers {An Excerpt}

  1. II. Gruyères

I had arrived in May three years ago in the village of Charmey, in the region of Gruyères, the day of the communion of Jacques’ second born son, Adrian. My ancestry can be traced to the town and a distant…

How does a true les fromagette spend her mother’s day? Probably doing the thing that is intrinsic to them, and as it turns out their amazing MOM! If you’re anywhere near as lovely, fun, and cute, sweet…(i could go on) as my mom, you’ll be enjoying Mother’s day just as much as they are. Luckily, my mom enjoys champagne and oysters…and all poolside on warm summer nights. Dad-chop and I enjoyed the cheeses and other accoutrement.

If any of you know me well, you know I love hugs, so be sure to give your sweet mom plenty of ‘em. after all she still loves you after all this time. Between your low-fat, and vegan cheese phases, she’s watched your cheese trends come and go like boyfriends…yet she never pushed or pressured you toward triple creme or the lawyer, maybe gracefully gave you advice when you needed it. So, this is a tribute to those mom’s that know what you want, and let you find it in your own good time. Winnimere and sparkling, mom? Yes, thank you, and we love you Mom.

I drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it—unless I’m thirsty.

you may ask, as les fromagettes, do you ever need to snack on something else, besides the amazing goodness of cheese? yes, in fact we do. both tamchop and lil sriracha are huge fans off all things veggie. especially all the incredible fresh produce at our finger tips. however…at times, certain snacks seem to magically appear at the cheese station. where do they come from? who has left us that slice of serrano, is that a roast beef angel i see? from fruit to charcuterie, here is a day in the life of les fromagettes snacks from heaven. (i think it was noe.)

What is cheese without the bubbly? One of Les Fromagettes (Lil Sriracha) is lucky enough to have a Bollinger tasting soon...can't wait!!! Here is a sneak peak...

vinoyesno:

Bill and I went to a Bollinger tasting last week and tasted 4 wines: the Special Cuvée, Rosé, as well as the vintage wines La Grand Année 2002 and La Grand Année Rosé 2002. For Bollinger champagnes, Pinot Noir amounts to about 60% of the cuvées, which is balanced with be a mix of Chardonnay…
